Amos Alonzo Stagg High School Joins St. Baldrick's Fox Chicago Schools Challenge

Posted:

We're one week away from our big shave day at U.S. Cellular as part of our St. Baldrick’s Fox Chicago Schools Challenge.

We've teamed up with 50 area schools to help raise money and awareness to fight kids’ cancer.

Today we go inside the halls of Stagg High School in Palos Hills where they're being brave and going bald. They know together we can make a difference!

Amos Alonzo Stagg High School opened its doors in 1964. Today the Chargers are doing better than ever. A talented, diverse student body united as part of our St. Baldrick’s FOX Chicago Schools Challenge.

Cancer kills more of our kids every year than the next 4 things combined. Every penny raised goes a long way to help our kids beat cancer.

"We're providing more birthdays -- we're making more birthdays. We're helping cancer, helping fight for the cure," Demi Mantas said.

At an 81 percent cure rate we've come a long way but still have a long way to go.

At Stagg it is a team effort all around. They really get into the Baldrick’s spirit here. They are motivated for sure! For some, fighting cancer is personal.

"My mom, in 2005 she had vera sarcoma and she had to go through the chemotherapy. So I think Baldrick’s is a good cause because it helps some of the kids out that have the cancer and they have to go through chemotherapy and all those costly procedures. One helps the other. The kids' system helps the adult system and vice versa,” Stagg senior Jeff Trybula said. He also said his mother is now doing well.
