A Phoenix mother suspected of beating her 19-year-old daughter for not going along with an arranged marriage pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated assault, unlawful imprisonment and resisting arrest.

Maricopa County Superior Court says 50-year-old Yusra Farhan entered the plea Monday.

Farhan originally was arrested Feb. 7 on suspicion of unlawful imprisonment and aggravated assault after her daughter refused to participate in an arranged marriage with a 38-year-old man.

Police say Farhan allegedly burned her older daughter on the face and chest with a hot spoon.

Two others, 18-year-old Tabarak Altameemi and 45-year-old Mohammed Altameemi, also pleaded not guilty to assault and unlawful imprisonment.

Their next court date is April 18.
