Toilet Paper Bandit Sought in Robbery

(CANVAS STAFF REPORTS) - A robber in Lincoln, Neb., chose a low-budget disguise this week as he robbed a convenience store.

1011Now.com reported on Wednesday that the man covered his face with toilet paper before robbing the store.

The disguise may have proven effective as the Smoking Gun website reported the man is still on the loose. The Smoking Gun posted the surveillance video from the incident.

The man was armed with a knife as he robbed the store on Saturday night, according to 1101Now.com. He fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police officer Katie Flood told said that a K-9 unit turned up some toilet paper about a half a block away but then the trail went cold. Flood said that someone had seen the man inside and tried to enter the store but was motioned away by the man. She had left and called 911. No one was injured.

A surveillance camera picked up the man walking up to the store as the clerk smoked outside. He walked back in with the clerk and demanded money form the safe.

"With that disguise there isn't much to go on," a Lincoln Police Department told The Smoking Gun.

The man also wore a black hat, a black hooded sweater, dark pants and dark shoes.

Flood, talking to 1011Now.com, recalled a 2009 case in which a suspect used a beer box to hide his identity. That case attracted national attention but went unsolved.

She said she doesn't believe the two cases are related.
