NBC’s ‘Playboy Club’ Canceled after Three Episodes

LOS ANGELES -- NBC has canceled its new drama series "The Playboy Club," The Hollywood Reporter said Tuesday.

The network aired just three episodes of the show, which drew poor ratings. Its premiere was watched by 5 million viewers, but the second episode drew 3.8 million and the third was watched by 3.2 million people.

The show was met with controversy, including petitions from anti-porn groups such as Pink Cross and Morality in Media asking NBC not to air the series.

Dawn Hawkins, executive director of Morality in Media, said pornography "leads to addiction in children and adults, increased sex trafficking [and] violence against women -- and Playboy is really the root of all of this."

In Salt Lake City, NBC affiliate KSL-TV said it would refuse to run the show because the station is "completely inconsistent with the Playboy brand."

"The Playboy Club" will be replaced by the news magazine "Rock Center with Brian Williams," which premieres Oct. 31. Until then, the show's time slot will be filled by repeats of the crime drama "Prime Suspect."
