PHOENIX - Grassroots organization Marriage Equality USA organized a rally Tuesday protesting the California Supreme Court's upholding of Proposition 8.
Around 200 people started the march at 7th Ave and Camelback at 6 p.m., expressing their belief that the California Supreme Court's decision to uphold the constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman is unfair.
Barbara Zaborowski has been married for 38 years, in what some would call a traditional marriage. She says she's enjoyed married life so much, she wouldn't deny that to anyone.
"I thought it was important they know they're not alone. And it's important for the people going by to know there's alot of us who support marriage equality."
Organizers of the protest say that while the granting of civil unions for GLBT couples in California is a step in the right direction, it's not equal rights.
Dawn Banks has been with her partner for 10 years. "Although it's a step in the right direction we should be able to be married and have all the rights that heterosexual couples get."
In Arizona, gay marriage isn't allowed and gay marriages performed in other states aren't recognized.
