PHOENIX -- A DPS motorcycle officer is hurt after getting pinned between a wall and a vehicle.
It happened about 12:40 p.m. on I-17 northbound at Indian School.
"A motorcycle officer was parked over on the right shoulder for a traffic stop, had just about finished with the traffic stop, when a pickup truck pulling a trailer slowed abruptly, the trailer swerved striking a white Crown Victoria, the Crown Victoria then veered into the right shoulder and hit our motorcycle, hitting the officer against the motorcycle and the barrier wall," says DPS Lt. Steve Harrison.
The car pinned the officer against the barrier wall of the freeway. The officer was loaded into an ambulance and rushed to a hospital for treatment.
DPS Officer Randall Wilson sustained a broken leg, broken wrist, and injured his shoulder.
There were no signs or symptoms of impairment on any of the drivers involved in this collision, DPS says.
Arizona has a Move Over Law that requires motorists to switch lanes, if possible, away from an emergency vehicle stopped on the side of the road.
"Oviously on the interstate you don't want to slow down so much that you create a traffic backup or a collision like we had here today," says Lt. Harrison.
I-17 northbound was closed at Indian School and reopened about 4 p.m. The investigation is ongoing.
