TEMPE - A Mesa woman has had her car impounded and is facing several charges after striking a light rail train and then fleeing the scene.

Police say 20-year-old Shaurice Corrine Mayhew made a U-turn in front of a Metro light rail train near the 1800 block of E. Apache Blvd. in Tempe.

There was a sign posted saying U-turns are prohibited.

After the collision, the 1998 Ford Taurus fled the scene, officers say. Two DPS officers in the area of the collision witnessed the hit-and-run and followed the Taurus in an unmarked car.

After a traffic stop was initiated, Mayhew admitted to colliding with the light rail, police say.

Damage was minimal and no injuries were reported.

Mayhew was taken to Tempe City Jail and charged with failing to remain at the scene of the collision and driving on a suspended license. Mayhew also received a civil citation for failing to obey a traffic control device -- and her vehicle was towed and impounded.
