Fatal Bicycle Accident Closes Intersection

TEMPE - A bicyclist has died after he is hit by an SUV in Tempe Monday night, restricting traffic near University and Ash.

Tempe Police say the bicyclist was hit by an SUV while in the eastbound lane of University near Ash.

University is closed westbound from Mill to Ash, and Ash is closed northbound at University. The closures are expected to remain in effect past 10 p.m.

The victim later died at a hospital. His name has not been released.

The driver of the vehicle stopped and is cooperating with police. It's not clear whether the driver will be charged with anything.
