PHOENIX - We heard the calls for boycotts leading up to the All-Star Game -- boycotts because of Arizona's controversial immigration law.
Some groups called for players to pull out, and there were even calls for baseball to take the game elsewhere. None of those materialized.
Star player Adrian Gonzalez of the Boston Red Sox at first said he was going to boycott the game -- according to Enrique Morones.
Morones used to be Vice President of the San Diego Padres, Gonzales' old team.
"Last year Adrian Gonzalez, as his father told me, Adrian will not play in the All-Star Game. Now that he's with a big league team... he decides to play," says Morones.
Gonzalez grew up playing baseball in Tijuana, Mexico. He says he never meant to say he backed the boycott.
"I didn't know a lot about the situation and in a way I was caught off-guard. I answered the question and once everything came off of that, I was like, that's not where I want to go," said Gonzalez.
Morones left the Padres and now is an immigration rights activist.
"Adrian needs to speak out, because when Adrian gets to the pearly gates, St. Peter is not going to ask him what his batting average was. He's going to ask him, did you help your fellow man?" says Morones.
Despite having a great time at the All-Star game, the controversy surrounding Gonzalez and his stance on SB 1070 will no doubt continue.
