Care Packages for Soldiers Overseas

One group is gathering to make sure members of the military aren't forgotten this Thanksgiving. They're putting together care packages full of goodies and treats on Wednesday, to be sent to soldiers overseas.

The Military Family Support Group gathered at the Sweet Tomatoes in north Phoenix to help pack up 600 holiday goodie boxes for soldiers serving overseas.

Jim Ebele has two grandsons in the army, and he's helping out. "When they get a care package from home, be it from us or the group, it brings back memories that somebody cares enough about them to take the time and spend the money for the postage and the goodies."

The packages are filled with everything from snacks and treats, to books and magazines.

"All these people have chosen to be here, the night before Thanksgiving, so we do have a lot to be thankful for," says organizer Diana Bruce.

Most of the care packages will go to Arizona servicemembers in Iraq and Afghanistan. All the items were donated by the community.

The packages are expected to arrive in soldiers' hands in the next few weeks.
