McCain, Doctors Discuss Healthcare at Town Hall

Sen. John McCain held a town hall meeting in Phoenix Monday, featuring a panel of doctors, which several hundred members of the public attended.

Sen. McCain is against the Democrats' healthcare reform bill, saying it would lead to healthcare rationing.

"It authorities the Secretary of Health Insurance to deny payments for prevention services that the task force recommends against. You tell me that isn't healthcare rationing!" he said.

McCain blasted one of the bills working its way through Congress right now. He invited doctors to get their feedback on how to best improve the healthcare system in this country.

He also laid out some of his ideas for reform, including giving people tax credits to buy health insurance, and cracking down on malpractice suits against doctors.

"They [lawmakers] are looking at this from a political and perhaps economic point of view, and not really from a healthcare point of view and what's best for patients," says Dr. Thomas Moshiri, an anesthesiologist.

Over the weekend, Sen. McCain voted against the Democrat's health reform bill that includes the public health insurance option. The option still passed.
