Wife Still Reeling from Loss of Rancher Husband

DOUGLAS - The unsolved murder of Douglas, Ariz. rancher Rob Krentz spurred Arizona's controversial crackdown on illegal immigration. In this exclusive story, Rob's wife Sue Krentz tells FOX 10 about her husband, her experiences with illegal immigration, and the emptiness of her husband's passing.

Krentz was killed back in March while he was out on his land checking for a water leak.

"Rob was out on the southern part of his ranch, which is a 35,000 acre ranch… he transmitted on his ranch radio to his brother… he said something about an illegal alien something about him possibly injured and that was it," says Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever.

DPS later found Krentz shot to death, his wounded dog Blue still beside him.

"Out of all the things in my entire life, I never I just can't comprehend I don't know, I can't even comprehend it," says Sue Krentz. "Rob was the kindest, gentlest person in the world, he was a good dad...can't replace him."

Ranchers were recently warned that a Mexican drug cartel was moving in near the Douglas-Mexico border.

"I'm frustrated and disappointed in the federal government, if they had chosen to do something constructive years ago we wouldn't be here," says Sue Krentz.

FOX 10's John Hook has more from Sue Krentz, Sheriff Larry Dever, and a neighboring rancher Ed Ashurst.
