Putting a bid on a house is just the first step to owning a dream house. But taking shortcuts after that could cause major safety issues, such as fire or getting electrocuted.

Here's how even after you sign on the dotted line, you could still pay a hefty price, if your house wasn't properly inspected.

This woman paid an extra $11,000 in repairs after first buying her house.
