PHOENIX - A family of raccoons make themselves right at home inside a Phoenix house.
The family who was renting the home called the homeowner saying they heard noises in the attic. When the owner went to check it out, he was in for quite a surprise.
"As I started crawling back up the attic, I saw a bushy tail and thought aw I got a cat. Well the tail had rings on it so then it turned around and it had a mask on its face so looking at it in the eye," says homeowner Ken Bragg.
"I backed out to the attic and thought I'll go get my trap. Well I put my trap up there for a couple of days, tried it out, it didn't do anything, its time to bring in the professionals."
"We went up there and the scariest part is when you first get up there you don't know what you are dealing with and I saw the raccoon pop up back and forth and we heard the noises thinking it was protecting her babies," says Joe Dewolf from Critter Ridder.
Crews found the mama raccoon and 5 of her babies. They were less than 2 weeks old, and couldn't fully open their eyes yet.
Now, mom and her babies are at an animal refuge center so they can be together until the babies are old enough to live on their own.
