TUCSON - The Arizona Department of Corrections says a 16-year-old inmate died Thursday evening in the juvenile section of a state prison in Tucson.

Edgar Vega was about three months into a five year sentence for aggravated assault when he collapsed in the kitchen, where he is assigned for work duty.

Corrections officers performed CPR and transported Vega to Kino Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Vega showed no obvious signs of trauma and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Department of Corrections Spokesman Barrett Marson did not know where Vega's family lives.

An online inmate database shows that Vega is a Mexican national and has an immigration hold. He was convicted in Maricopa County.
