Convict Escapes from Florence Prison

A 20-year-old inmate serving time for theft has escaped from the state prison in Florence, Ariz.

Yelson J. Moreno, 20, is a minimum security prisoner who was confirmed missing Sunday morning. Moreno was not in bed after the 11 a.m. roll call.

Moreno is a native of Mexico and was admitted into prison in June. He's was serving a 2-year sentence for theft out of Pinal County.

He apparently escaped by cutting a hole in the perimeter fence.

The Arizona Department of Corrections K-9 units have joined in the search for Moreno, along with police from Florence, Casa Grande and Gila River Indian Community, in addition to the Pinal County Sheriff's Department.
