TEMPE - The first big event scheduled for Tempe Town Lake is the Ironman Triathalon on Nov. 21, but officials say the lake will be ready in time.
Four bladders still need to be installed and the lake still needs to be filled -- but Asst. City Manager Jeff Kulaga says they're on schedule for a Nov. 1 opening date.
Each bladder will take 2 to 3 weeks to install, and there are four altogether.
If plans fall through, the City of Tempe is considering holding the swimming portion of the triathalon at Saguaro Lake.
To ensure another rupture doesn't happen, these bladders are smaller and should be able to withstand pressure better. On top of the bladders, a pedestrian bridge will be built that will provide shade -- and there will be a misting system in place to keep the rubber bladders cool.
