SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. - Two Phoenix women are in custody after U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested them for allegedly trying to smuggle two small children into the U.S. The incident occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday in Douglas. Officers were screening traffic and became suspicious when they came in contact with two women accompanied by two children.
Customs and Border Protection said a further investigation revealed the children did not belong to the women.
The children, a 7-year-old girl and her 1-year-old brother, are both Mexican nationals.
Federal officials say the parents were located and reunited with their children.
The women were taken into custody.
