PHOENIX - The widow of Lance Taylor, the man who was killed for intervening in an attempted beer theft, is getting an incredible gift.
One week after Chalise Taylor was hit the head with a gun and her husband shot in front of her eyes at a Phoenix convenience store, a local dealership is surprising her with a new car.
Lance and Chalise Taylor had just purchased a new car together before Lance was gunned down on Feb. 19.
The next day, Chalise went back to Courtesy Chevrolet to return the new car, now not able to afford the payments on her own.
But Sunday, in the middle of a fundraisER car wash, employees from Courtesy Chevrolet caught her off guard.
The dealership handed Chalise the keys to a 2007 Chevy Cobalt. They had heard about her husband's senseless murder and stepped up to help her out.
"I just can't believe they actually did this for me. It means a lot to me, it's something I won't forget, I just wish my husband was here to share it with me," she said.
"It was an unfortunate event, and I'm glad we were able to help out the family," says Scott Grimes from Courtesy Chevrolet.
Police say Lance Taylor was shot by Manuel Salazar, who was identified by tipsters after store surveillance photos were released.
Salazar is still on the run. Police think his parents helped him flee to Mexico -- they've since been arrested for hindering prosecution.
