MARICOPA - In an emotional ceremony Monday, the City of Maricopa held a ceremony to dedicate a bridge to deceased Phoenix Police Officer Shane Figueroa, one year after his death.
The Honeycutt Road bridge has been renamed the Shane Figueroa Memorial Bridge.
City officials were joined by family members and officers from the Maricopa, Phoenix, Pinal County, and Mesa Police force.
25-year-old Figueroa was killed in the line of duty on Oct. 25, 2008. A drunk driver will spend 14 years in prison for causing his death.
Officer Figueroa's father Cory is a member of the Maricopa Police Department.
Figueroa's widow and daughter contine to live in Maricopa.
