A 19-year-old Gilbert man has been indicted in the death of his 2-month-old daughter, Lilliana.

A grand jury indicted Ricky Martinez on criminal charges of first degree murder and child abuse.

According to documents, Gilbert Police were called to the suspect's home on Nov. 8 on reports of an unconscious child. The girl was taken to the hospital and remained on life support before passing away on Nov. 12.

Martinez claimed the girl had fallen off a changing table, but a police investigation determined the baby's injuries were not consistent with his story. He was arrested on Nov. 13.

Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas said, "Our office will work to seek justice for this young girl. I've instituted policies to seek hard time for violent criminals who prey on children, and those policies will be fully enforced in this case."
