QUEEN CREEK - Flames have gutted a mansion in Queen Creek, after more than 40 firefighters from four agencies battled the fire for hours Thursday night. Now investigators are trying to determine a cause.

The damage to the 5,000-square-foot home is over $1 million. It's still smoldering one day later. Now, homeowners are trying to pick up the pieces.

"There were a lot of things in this house, but it is hard to tell what they were, because they have been burned beyond recognition," said homeowner Jeff Whatcott.

The house is a total loss, and neighbors spent the day coming by to offer their help.

Whatcott, who lived in the neighborhood for 10 years, is thankful for the outpouring of support. "We just did not realize this community was this outreaching… their outpouring has been incredible."

There were teenage kids at home in the pool, but no one was injured.

The family is still looking for a little black and white cat called Kitty. The Fire Department says pets usually come back in a day or two after a fire.
