SCOTTSDALE - Coronado High School was been placed on lock down due to an altercation near Scottsdale Road and Thomas Tuesday morning.
Scottsdale police were able to get an armed elderly man barricaded in his home to surrender peacefully.
Scottsdale police spokesman Officer Dave Pubins said the man has medical problems. He originally held his wife and his 26-year-old son hostage before they managed to leave the home.
Due to the proximity to schools in the area both Sierra Vista Academy at 7501 E. Oak Street and Coronado High School at 7501 E. Virginia were placed on lock-down as a precaution.
The 60-year-old man was taken into custody.
