Bird Thief Hits Phoenix Woman's Home

PHOENIX - Her Phoenix home was ransacked and burglarized -- but the worst part is, three of her pets were taken.

Jan Mercado came home Monday afternoon to find dozens of electronics and valuables taken from her home. And the burglars also took off with three of her 11 birds.

Mercado says the most expensive and exotic birds were stolen, equaling nearly $1,000 dollars. Mercado says the birds were like her kids.

"I'm worried sick. I don't know how they're being treated, are they scared, they don't know what's going on."

Mercado has distributed fliers around the area, hoping that someone will recognize her birds. She's also keeping an eye out at local pet stores and Craigslist.
