Neighbor vs. Neighbor Over N. Phoenix Mormon Temple

PHOENIX - It's neighbors against neighbors in one part of valley.  Some want a new Mormon temple built in north Phoenix while others aren't sure about the idea.

The issue isn't about religion, but the building design. It would be 40 feet tall, with a 78-foot steeple and a lighted spire at night.

Neighbors say they paid extra for their mountain views, and they want to keep them. 

"We are just a tight little community, and for them to come in and say it's not going to impact you... it's going to have a large impact," says Pearley Lewis. "We're concerned about traffic, lighting, just the blocked views, and really the impact it's going to have on the neighborhood."

The church has to get special approval to build it because of height zoning laws.

Paul Gilbert represents the LDS church. "We are good neighbors, temples are beautiful buildings, the landscaping is immaculate." He says a nearby waterpark hasn't caused any traffic problems.
