PHOENIX - Friends, family members, and students are paying their respects and celebrating the life of an 18-year-old student who died while participating in a relay race last month.
Sunday, visitation for Robby Mayasich is from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brophy Chapel in Phoenix, and a vigil prayer service will begin at 7 p.m.
Mayasich was struck by a car during the 200-mile Ragnar relay race from Prescott to Tempe. He was hit while walking across the Carefree Highway about 1:30 a.m. Feb. 27. He had just finished his stretch of the race and was bringing water to another runner at the time.
Mayasich received brain trauma and passed away last Tuesday. His organs were donated.
A funeral mass is set for Monday, March 8 at 1 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church. All students who plan to attend the funeral should be in St. Francis Xavier Church by 12:40 pm. There will be a designated section for students but students should feel free to sit with their families if they prefer.
A reception is following the funeral mass at Brophy in Harper Great Hall.
