The Liberian community in the valley is still reeling from the brutal gang rape of an 8-year-old girl back in July.
Saturday, community leaders brought together several Liberian professional athletes, to work with young Liberian kids in the valley to boost morale and reduce negativity.
"To let the larger community know that what happened in the community about four months ago was an aberration. But indeed we want Liberians to be productive in this community," says Bob Sherman, part of the Liberian community of Arizona.
Four boys, ages 10 to 14, are accused of raping the girl after luring her to a vacant storage shed near her parent's apartment. All four suspects were arrested and charged in the attack -- the oldest boy, Steven Tuopeh, has been charged as an adult.
Earlier this month, the victim's parents were arrested for child abuse, in connection to several abuse and neglect incidents dating back to 2005. The victim is still in foster care.
