PHOENIX - Firefighters responded to an apartment fire at a complex located near 19th Ave and Thunderbird, and now several families are out of a home.
The building where the fire started had about 16 units, eight on each floor. According to the 911 call, the fire started on a second-story balcony.
Phoenix Police evacuated the complex while crews fought the flames.
Three to four apartments received severe water, fire, and smoke damage, and four to five others received moderate damage.
All the electricity was cut off to the building during firefighting efforts, so the residents of all 16 units are displaced Thursday night -- about 40 people.
Phoenix Fire Crisis Teams and the Red Cross are working together to find everyone shelter.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
