LITCHFIELD PARK - Glendale Police are identifying the two teens who stormed Luke Air Force Base in a stolen car last week, resulting in one of their deaths.
Glendale Police Sgt. Karen Gerardo says 16-year-old Jared Leyva-Coconi from Phoenix was killed, and 19-year-old Gabriel Aguilera of Glendale remains hospitalized from injuries sustained in the crash.
Aguilera will be charged with vehicle theft, felony flight, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, and murder.
In the early morning hours of Feb. 23, two suspects in a stolen vehicle trying to get away from pursuing police drove through soft barricades into Luke Air Force Base, according to police.
A Security Forces officer was forced to shoot at the suspect vehicle, when its occupants ignored commands and sirens to stop. The vehicle crashed, resulting in the death of Leyva-Coconi and seriously injuring Aguilera, who was driving.
Levya-Coconi's official cause of death is still being determined.
Authorities say the suspects were attempting to seek refuge and aren't calling it a terror threat.
