EL MIRAGE - They used a lighter to see better when they looked under the bed. It started a fire, which they thought they put out. But now family of three in El Mirage is homeless.
One of the family members was looking for something under a bed and using a lighter to provide more light.
The bedding caught on fire -- which they thought they put out. But they left the house 20 minutes later, and when they returned, their home was fully engulfed. They've lost everything.
El Mirage Assistant Fire Chief Howard Munding says that people who put out a fire themselves should always call a fire agency as a precaution. They would bring out thermal imaging to check for hot spots.
