PEORIA, Ariz. - Nearly 4,000 attended a funeral service for slain Phoenix police officer Travis Murphy, Wednesday morning at the Christ Church of the Valley in Peoria.
It was a final farewell to the 29-year-old officer, who was fatally shot May 26 during an early morning confrontation with a suspect.
Officers from all across the state came to pay their respects. Tears flowed down their faces, as they listen to Murphy's wife Danielle share memories of her husband.
"I loved everything about him and who he was as a father, a friend, a lover, and a provider. He's my very best friend," she said.
Murphy was a 4-year veteran of the police force with two young children, a 2-year-old daughter and a 3-week-old son.
"I promise you that Kaylee and Cody know how great their daddy was. I have a million pictures and stories and videos and they'll know he was a hero."
A miles-long procession led to the Phoenix Memorial Park, surrounded by fellow officers, family and friends, where he was laid to rest.
Police arrested 30-year-old Danny Ledezma Martinez of Tucson on charges of first-degree murder and weapons violations in connection to the case.
Donations in Murphy's honor can be made to the 100 Club or to a memorial fund in his name at Wells Fargo Bank.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the 100 Club in Travis honor.
A memorial fund for his children has been set up in his name at Wells Fargo Bank.
