APACHE JUNCTION -- Authorities are investigating a shooting at an Apache Junction residence.

It happened about 2:20 p.m. in the 1300 block of S. Royal Palm. Apache Junction Police Captain Thomas Kelly says an 18-year-old girl was answering a knock at the door when she was met with a gunshot wound.

She was shot in the shoulder and was able to call 911.

The victim's house was up for sale, so she was accustomed to getting visitors.

Dispatcher: "911 what is your--"

Victim: "I was just shot."

Dispatcher: "Did somebody break into your house and shoot you?"

Victim: "No. I opened the door and they wanted to see the house and they just pulled out a gun."

Dispatcher: "Do you know who shot you?"

Victim: "No hurry please. They are still outside. There is blood everywhere. Please hurry."

A medical helicopter landed nearby at Peralta Elementary School and the woman was flown to Maricopa Medical Center.

Police are still searching for the shooter and anyone else who may have been with him.

"The last we got information it was a male white subject, about 5'10, 150 to 175 pounds, brownish hair. Supposedly left on foot but we not even sure of that," says Kelly.

Capt. Kelly says this is likely an isolated incident and residents should not be afraid. The victim is expected to survive.
