House Democrats' say final draft of the bill will expand coverage to 36 million Americans. This version comes after an internal Democratic squabble over the government-run portion of the plan. The plan expands Medicaid and imposes penalties on employers who do not offer insurance to workers. It also requires everyone to purchase insurance by 2013 either through the government-run plan, an employer or an exchange where private insurers compete for business.
Republicans say the nearly 2,000 page plan will cut benefits for seniors and they want more time to look over the plan.
The Congressional budget office still has to place a final price tag on the legislation and debate on the floor could begin as early as next week.
