A suspected illegal immigrant is in custody after a 7-hour standoff with police in Prescott Valley Friday morning.
A woman called police about 3:30 a.m. Friday. to report a domestic disturbance. Police say that Rafael Real Olivas Ampano fired several rounds from inside a home in the 4300 block of Romero Circle East.
The woman was rescued from the residence while the suspect kept himself barricaded inside.
Several nearby homes were evacuated as officers made several unsuccessful attempts to drive Ampano out of the home. They used diversionary devices and gas canisters.
Due to combined efforts from the Prescott Valley and Prescott SWAT and police forces, the suspect was arrested about 7 and a half hours later.
Ampano is thought to be between 19 and 21 years of age, and admitted to being in the country illegally.
Ampano was booked into the Yavapai County Jail on aggravated assault, endangerment, disorderly conduct, and misconduct involving weapons charges.
