Body of Missing 2-Year-Old Found Mile From Home

Published : Wednesday, 04 Aug 2010, 1:27 PM MST

DEWEY-HUMBOLDT - The body of a missing boy who was the focus of a two-day search has been found about one mile from his home in Dewey-Humboldt, 12 miles east of Prescott.

Two-year-old Emmett Trapp's body was located at about 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday by search and rescue personnel, Prescott Valley police Sgt. Brandon Bonney said in a news release.

Bonney said the area where Emmett’s body was found has been contained and is being treated like a crime scene, although police have stopped short of calling the death a result of foul play.

"We talked about 2-year-olds being able to travel some distance, and that appears to be the case here," said Sheriff Dwight D-Evelyn. "But until everything shakes out with our detectives, I really can't comment any more."

No further details were given Wednesday afternoon.

Searchers had been focusing on mine shafts, open wells and septic tanks during Wednesday’s search. The terrain is rough.

The search for Emmett began Monday night when the boy's mother called authorities to report him missing from their home, after waking up from a nap and finding him gone.

The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said about 60 people on foot, horse and all-terrain vehicles were searching for the boy, who was last seen wearing a pajama top, diaper and no shoes.

The boy apparently had wandered off with the family dog. The dog returned when called, but Emmett did not.
