Did you know that your tax dollars are being used to help illegal immigrants fight for back wages?
The U.S. Department of Labor's web site encourages all workers, undocumented or not, to contact the department if they feel they're being shortchanged at work.
The government agency is running a public service announcement that maks it clear this government assistance applies to all workers, legal or not.
Text of the P.S.A.:
"You work hard and you have the right to be paid fairly. I'm U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis and it is a serious problem when workers in this country are not being paid every cent they earn. Remember: every worker in America has a right to be paid fairly, whether documented or not. So, call us - it is free and confidential at 1-866-487-9243. We can help."
The P.S.A. also runs in Spanish.
Some lawmakers are shocked that the Labor Department is offering help to illegal immigrants, especially since the department's own web site says it is illegal to hire them.
