Of the 66 detained, 30 were suspected illegal aliens. 19 of them have been turned over to federal immigration agents. The remaining 11 suspects were taken into custody on state charges.

The crime suppression operation is the 12th of its kind. Deputies have started video taping their traffic stops, to combat the use of activist groups recording them.

Thursday, ICE stripped Arpaio of the power to make federal immigration arrests. Arpaio is the subject of a Justice Department investigation triggered by complaints of racial profiling. Arpaio denies the allegations.
