Brewer, McCain React to Border Security Bill

PHOENIX - In the Border Battle, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer and Sen. John McCain both campaigned in southern Arizona, and they focused on the country's hottest issue -- border security and illegal immigration.

Brewer and McCain were on a campaign stop in Sierra Vista when they received word President Barack Obama signed the border security bill into law.

The law makes way for more border agents and surveillance drones, and McCain is taking credit for the new law but said it's only a start, and there is still much more to do.

“I think it was because of Arizona that bill was introduced and that people realized that we were serious and that the people of America were serious,” Brewer said.

“If you would have said two months ago when Janet Napolitano and President (Barack) Obama were saying that the border was largely secure, we wouldn’t have gotten $600 million, so I’m optimistic,” McCain said.

McCain and Brewer both promised Arizona residents that they will continue to work hard to secure the border.
