FLORENCE, Ariz. - Sheriff's deputies in Pinal County say they've recovered the bodies of two suspected illegal immigrants who perished in the desert in separate incidents.

Sheriff's spokesman Tim Gaffney says deputies were called late Monday by a Spanish-speaking man who said he and his wife were lost north of Interstate 8.

Deputies used GPS tracking to find 25-year-old Jose Daniel Castaneda Morales. He told them his wife had died and he had left a trail of toilet paper leading to her body.

Castaneda told deputies they had been left behind by a smuggler paid to bring them into the U.S.

Gaffney says the U.S. Border Patrol detained seven immigrants last Thursday and called deputies after they said a man traveling with them had died. Deputies found him four miles south of I-8.
