PEORIA - A valley man who paid all of his mortgage payments on time is still losing his home -- just because he wasn't paying his HOA dues.
Now that HOA owns his Peoria house. It's an extreme case but it could still happen in neighborhoods all over the valley.
Michael Adams admits he owes money for unpaid HOA dues. That's why he's offering to pay back all of the money he owes and more, but he says, the HOA will not work with him and is threatening to evict him.
It all stems from $3,000 in HOA dues that he didn't pay -- and now Adams is entangled in a bitter legal battle that's costing thousands more.
Because of the outstanding debt, Shangri-La Estates was able to take ownership of the house. Adams is now offering $20,000 to buy back his place, but the HOA won't settle.
Attorney Kevin Harper says there's no rational reason for what the HOA is doing. "The only thing I can think of is pure unmitigated greed," he says.
Adams and his wife have called their place for 15 years. He feels he's done everything he can to save his house.
Adams didn't have money at the time to pay his HOA dues because he had to pay his wife's medical bills.
