A new statewide survey of Arizona voters finds Democratic Attorney General Terry Goddard with a sizable lead over Republican Gov. Jan Brewer in a possible November 2010 matchup for governor.
The Arizona State University poll released Tuesday evening finds Goddard supported by 47 percent of those surveyed. Brewer was favored by 28 percent of respondents. The rest of those responding said either they'd vote for neither or are undecided.
Brewer has announced her candidacy, but she faces primary opposition.
Goddard is the presumptive Democratic nominee, though he can't announce his candidacy before January without triggering the state's resign-to-run law.
The poll is based on telephone calls to 862 registered voters and has a margin of error of approximately 3.5 percentage points.
