PHOENIX - The Refuge Youth Center in north Phoenix was burglarized over the weekend, and nearly everything was taken. Still, the founder is not letting that stop him build his dream of helping young people.

The 24,000 square-foot warehouse is a place for teens to go to after school to stay out of trouble.

Dan Brodeur is a former youth pastor who hoped to make the Refuge Youth Center a free place for youth to hang out -- as long as they give back to the community.

Brodeur says the kids are required to put in volunteer time or something similar to gain access to all it has to offer.

This weekend, someone pried the garage door open. The burglars took all of the equipment, tore into the electrical system, and stole renovation supplies. The suspects have not been caught.

The center is competing in a national idea contest sponsored by Pepsi. If the Refuge Youth Center is voted as one of the most popular ideas, they could get a $50,000 grant.
