CAVE CREEK, Ariz. - One valley middle school is closing its doors due to the tough economy.
The school board will meet on Wednesday to talk about the closure of Desert Arroyo Middle School in Cave Creek.
Parents and students rallied outside the school just before the board met on Tuesday, but the last ditch efforts didn't work. The board voted three to two to close the school.
The superintendent says they're going through tough economic times and consolidating Desert Arroyo with another school would save $500,000.
The district has already laid off dozens of teachers to balance the budget.
Desert Arroyo Middle School will close at the end of the school year.
