(MYFOX NATIONAL) - An Arizona man believes his Twitter post about his vacation may have led to the robbery of his home.
The Associated Press reports that Israel Hyman who lives in East Mesa, Ariz., broadcast on the popular social networking site that he wouldn't be home. "Everyone who reads the tweets that I send out knows that I was heading out of town," Hyman said.
When his father, Jerry, came by to check up on the house while he was gone, he found thousands of dollars of video equipment missing.
Hyman, who makes his living podcasting, says that despite what happened, he'll still continue to use Twitter. But he said, "In the future though, I'm probably not going to be announcing when I'm heading out of town."
Plenty of social networking site users post information about their whereabouts or what they are doing at a given time. But there are several recommended safety tips. Melanie Jordan offers the following on ezinearticles.com :
1) Do not tell others you are going out somewhere
2) Especially do not tweet that you are going away for the weekend or on a trip
3) Don't let the world know you live alone
4) It's about being sociable, not divulging every secret of your life
