Its read like a Hollywood movie since day one. Two year old Caylee Anthony mysteriously disappears, and for 31 days her mother Casey Anthony kept it a secret. She told police the nanny stole her baby.
This story has taken twists and turns the way none of us could have imagined. Some have said, if this were a movie no one would believe it. But this bizarre real life drama has caught the eyes of a Hollywood heavyweight, Academy Award winning director Steven Soderbergh. He's famous for movies like Oceans 11, Traffic, and the legal thriller Erin Brockovich. Now he's taking the Casey and Caylee Anthony saga to the stage in Australia for the Sydney Theatre Company. The name of the play 'Tot Mom', a nickname given to Casey Anthony by lawyer turned CNN talk show host Nancy Grace.
According to the theatre's website, Soderbergh has used transcripts from Nancy Grace's show, court documents and police records to create "Tot Mom". The theatre company's web site describes the play as a "compelling drama for our sensation-hungry times."
“Tot Mom” premiers at the Sydney Theatre Company on December 18. Tickets range in price from $30.00 to $70.00.
FOX 35 asked Casey Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez, how he feels about Soderbergh turning his client's story into a play. He said quote "if its based on reality and not fiction I think its extremely premature because this case is not close to its conclusion."
