GILBERT, Ariz. - A suspect who tried to flee from law enforcement during a traffic stop has committed suicide after a 3-hour standoff .
Gilbert police were trying to pull the man over for a minor traffic violation when he tried to evade deputies.
The suspect ignored stop signs and reached high speeds throughout Gilbert.
Police were able to stop the man's truck after deploying stop sticks. It came to a stop in a wash area near Hunt Hwy and Val Vista.
The suspect then threatened to shoot himself if deputies came any closer.
The Gilbert Police SWAT team moved in and took over, trying to negotiate with the man. But after nearly 3 hours, the man shot himself.
Gilbert Police are investigating. The man has not been identified.
