PHOENIX - When the hunt for a violent criminal goes cold, police often call on Silent Witness. The public calls in tips, and the motivation to help is reward money. But that fund is running out.

Donations pay for Silent Witness, and donations are drying up in a bad economy.

Sergeant Darren Burch is the Coordinator of Silent Witness. He says, "We're at a point where we are concerned and need to address it now before it comes critical."

Silent Witness started a website called BuildingSaferCommunities.com to raise awareness.

"It's so worth it. However much money they need to spend to find these guys, to get them off the streets so they can't do this again, destroy another family," says Darcy Forst, who lost her husband in 2007. The shooter has not been caught.

The reward for tips in Ed Forst's June 2007 murder is $50,000. He was found in his vehicle near the corner of McDowell and 27th Ave, shot to death.
