MESA - Mesa Police are asking the city to approve new laws to crack down on crime. The laws aim to make hotels and convenience stores safer -- but some business owners aren't pleased.
Some business owners are saying now is not the time to ask anyone to spend more money on security.
Mesa Police are proposing a new law that would require about a hundred convenience stores to have certain security measures in place -- like cameras, alarm systems, better lighting and visibility, and even height charts to help provide physical descriptions of suspects.
But some store owners are upset because they say it would be too expensive.
"With the cameras it's a good idea, almost every body has cameras any way, but the other stuff… I don't think it's a good idea. Who's got the money to do it?" says Shamoon Yousif.
A similar law is being proposed for hotels in Mesa. If passed, these two laws could go into effect within a few months.
