SACRAMENTO - John Rodriguez, the Scottsdale man convicted of fraud for pretending to be a Marine, has been apprehended in California.
Rodriguez was a no-show for his trial this week, during which a jury found him guilty of 13 counts of fraud and forgery. A warrant for his arrest was issued.
Rodriguez was caught in El Dorado County, California on Thursday night. He was stopped on suspicion of DUI and that's when officers realized he was a fugitive from justice out of Arizona.
Prosecutors say he wore a uniform and ribbons indicating he'd been awarded the prestigious Navy Cross and Silver Star. Rodriguez even tried to postpone a court date by claiming he was going to be deployed to Iraq.
DPS is on their way to El Dorado County to bring Rodriguez back to serve time.
