FLAGSTAFF - A 29-year-old Phoenix-area man and his 3-year-old daughter have been found shot to death at a campsite off of Hwy. 67, in an apparent murder-suicide.
Coconino County Sheriff's Deputies found the bodies of Ryan Peters, 29, and his 3-year-old daughter Teigan, Tuesday at 12:25 a.m. They were at a campsite near Parissawampitts Point, which leads to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.
Sunday, Mesa Police had been looking for Peters and his non-custodial daughter. A relative had called police, telling them Peters, a recent divorcee, was despondent and possibly suicidal. The relative said they went camping, and police were able to find out where Peters went because a family member had made cell phone contact with him around 9 p.m. and got his location.
During their investigation, Mesa Police found that Ryan Peters had failed to return his daughter Teigan to his ex-wife, as stipulated by a recent custody agreement.
Coconino County Sheriff's Detectives believe the death was a murder-suicide and is investigating.
